A PUBLIC REBUKE FOR JAMES WHITE!

The Anti King James Version Conspiracy

An Investigation by Cecil J. Carter - Bible teacher

The purpose of this essay is to examine Biblically one of the latest productions of the ever restless, never satisfied, ever-changing, misguided Anti “King James Version Only” Conspiracy.

One of the objects of this examination is a book and it’s author.

The book: - “The King James Only Controversy;”
Subtitle, - “Can you trust the modern versions?”

The author James R. White- director of Alpha and Omega Ministries. The copyright 1995.

Twelve Doctors of Theology give this book a clean bill of health.

It is my privilege and responsibility to draw to my reader’s attention the fact that in spite of their unreserved, and I may say undeserved praise, these “Doctors” have failed to bring to the attention of Mr. White that there are a considerable number of symptoms of spiritual illness in this remarkable literary effort that will inevitably have fatal results if innocent, unlearned persons, trusting the book, its author and its professional, but erring “public relations officers;” do not have the errors that abound in the “King James Only Controversy,” explained to them “O thou man of God, there is death in the pot.” II Kings 4:40b.

“And Elisha came again to Gilgal: and there was a dearth in the land; and the sons of the prophets were sitting before him: and he said unto his servant, Set on the great pot, and seethe pottage for the sons of the prophets.

And one went out into the field to gather herbs, and found a wild vine, and gathered thereof wild gourds his lap full, and came and shred them into the pot of pottage: for they knew them not.

So they poured out for the men to eat. And it came to pass, as they were eating of the pottage, that they cried out, and said, O thou man of God, there is death in the pot. And they could not eat thereof.

But he said, Then bring meal. And he cast it into the pot; and he said, Pour out for the people, that they may eat. And there was no harm in the pot.” II Kings 4:38-41.

Regrettably, in order to bring God’s antidote within reach of those who have trustingly used the new versions of the Bible with their deadly, “slowly released” medications, it will be absolutely necessary for me to search and destroy the errors, even though this will be embarrassing, but I do prayerfully trust be a blessing to the author, his precious family and his misguided friends.

Although Mr. White’s scorn is poured out repeatedly and I must say almost endlessly, on those he designates as “The King James Only, advocates” the KJV reading of Matthew 5:44 is finding a glad reception in my heart.

“But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;”
Matthew 5:44

Author White’s NASV and NIV Mutilate this verse; omitting the above underlined words.

If, in dealing with the author’s strong denunciations of those many thousands of Christians who astound the “clerics” with their staunch adherence to the KJV. I find it necessary to “rebuke sharply”, it is for the sake of our Lord’s sheep who indeed “Know not the voice of strangers” and refuse to follow the many modern wolves “in sheeps clothing.”

“And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice. And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.”
John 10:4-5 (see also - Titus 1:13)

“Is it truly biblical to expose false teachers?”

In I Timothy 1:19-20 The apostle Paul warns his readers of the dangerous blasphemous doctrines of Hymenaeus and Alexander. “Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away, concerning faith have made shipwreck:

Of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme.”
I Tim. 1:19-20

He sweeps aside with one contemptuous stroke of his pen the intrusion of pseudo scientific oppositions in the realm of opposing Scripture;

“O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called:

Which some professing have erred concerning the faith. Grace be with thee. A-men.”
I Tim 6:20-21

Paul identifies two who appear to be leaders in the moving away from the truth by the “Churches in Asia,” as Phygellus, and Hermogenes. (II Tim. 1:15-16). At the same time giving honorable mention to one whose mind was not blinded by the popular modernistic doctrines of the day.

“This thou knowest, that all they which are in Asia be turned away from me; of whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes.

The Lord give mercy unto the house of Onesiphorus; for he oft refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain:” II Tim 1:15-16.

God’s faithful servant does not fear ferocious charges of being responsible for creating division and confusion in the churches, because he exposes the deadly nature of the evil that Hymenaeus, and Philetus were using to over throw the faith of some.

“But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.

And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;

Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.

Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.”
II Tim. 2:16-19

In II Timothy 4:10 Paul let’s all the churches in which his letters would be read know the need to deal with men that were leading the congregations astray, those that opposed him, and those that forsook him.

“For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world,... Alexander the coppersmith did me much evil: the Lord reward him according to his works: Of whom be thou ware also; for he hath greatly withstood our words.”
II Timothy 4:10a,14,15.

God’s chosen Apostle (Acts 13:2) does not hesitate to defend himself from lying accusations from within the churches, or synagogues.

“For if the truth of God hath more abounded through my lie unto his glory; why yet am I also judged as a sinner?

And not rather, (as we be slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we say,) Let us do evil, that good may come? whose damnation is just.”
Rom. 3:7-8

Paul does not refrain from publishing the names of the erring, sinful ones. On occasion he mentions only the slander of perhaps many who were spreading slanderous reports about his ministry.

“For though I should boast somewhat more of our authority, which the Lord hath given us for edification, and not for your destruction, I should not be ashamed:

That I may not seem as if I would terrify you by letters.

For his letters, say they, are weighty and powerful; but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech contemptible.

Let such an one think this, that, such as we are in word by letters when we are absent, such will be also in deed when we are present.

For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.” II Cor. 10:8-12

I plead with my readers to come with me in spirit back through the centuries to the land of Israel the synagogues and the churches are greatly agitated. A bombshell from heaven has exploded in the midst of the synagogues the religion of the day. The chief priests, Pharisees, Sadducces, Scribes, and Lawyers were astounded.

SHADES OF THE INQUISITION

Saul of Tarsus, a brilliant young man whose learning had gone to his head so proudly that he failed to see the true issues of life. The man who spearheaded the persecution of true Christians even to death and imprisonment, who had obtained from the high priest in Jerusalem letters to the synagogues in Damascus authorizing him to bring Christian men and women bound unto Jerusalem for punishment.

In Acts 7: we find the record of the stoning of Stephen one of the earliest of our Lord’s martyrs. One of the participants and witnesses of the stoning of Stephen was a young man named Saul; who later confessed, that standing there and keeping the clothing of them that slew Stephen was “consenting unto his death.”

“And I said, Lord, they know that I imprisoned and beat in every synagogue them that believed on thee:

And when the blood of thy martyr Stephen was shed, I also was standing by, and consenting unto his death, and kept the raiment of them that slew him.” Acts 22:19-20.

This, the hero of the Christ crucifying religious leaders, now openly unashamedly has been “born again”. Furthermore he is boldly preaching in the synagogues that Jesus Christ IS THE SON OF GOD. The very One that they had crucified is now being uplifted and declared to be “the Son of God.” Acts 9:20. Therefore Saul must die. vs23

If you think clearly can you not almost see and hear Scribes, Pharisees, Sadducees, Lawyers, rising up and fiercely denouncing this man Saul, and laying all of the blame for the spiritual awakening in some of the synagogues, the arguing, divisions, and confusion squarely on the shoulders of God’s apostle? On the surface the hypocritical, blind guides which strained at a gnat and swallowed a camel, who outwardly shone but inwardly where God’s eye could readily see the uncleanness dwelling within, were angrily blaming the true?? source of all the confusion. The spiritually unenlightened mind then and now would probably say, “yes Paul was responsible for the great upheaval.”

Personally I strongly disagree with this flawed reasoning. At the heart of the system of religion headed up by the High Priests, Chief Priests, Lawyers, Scribes, Sadducees and Pharisees were doctrines of devils.

1. They mocked the virgin birth of our Lord and Saviour in John 8:41.
2. They accused Him of being demon possessed in John 8:52.
3. They declared that they knew Him to be a sinner in John 9:24.
4. They accused the Son of God of blasphemy in John 10:36.
5. They wanted to stone Him because “Thou, being a man, makest thyself God.” in John 10:33. See also John 19:7.

The powerful Holy Spirit filled preaching of Paul and the other Apostles simply lifted the cover from the hideous lies that were being taught to the people by their religious leaders. The fault lay not in Paul’s preaching but in the religious leaders that our Lord named, “ye generation of vipers”, “hypocrites”, and ”whited sepulchres.” “How can ye escape the damnation of hell?”

Paul in the Assemblies of the Saints

Previously we noted Paul’s unsparing revelation of those who by one means or another had become influential enough to introduce error into the churches.

Imagine if you will the ministers, elders, bible teachers who had their eyes closed to the poisonous deadly doctrines of devils which were already beginning to infiltrate the early churches. Mr. White’s false accusations concerning the “KJV Only” ministry could possibly be the ranting unjustifiable accusation that in another form was laid against Paul.

Let us take a look at the heart cry of a well educated person who not yet sees the great deception that has laid hold on the mind and soul of every member of the “Anti KJV Only Conspiracy.”

They have all without exception believed a lie. It is fixed firmly in their mind so that they have a mind set which causes them to see all the factors in the conspiracy, so that they cannot, in some cases will not, see the truth.

On page V of his introduction Mr. White says;

“Responsibility must be laid at the door of the KJV Only camp for the destruction of many Christian churches. Church splits have taken place as the direct result of the influence of the KJV only materials”. Introduction page V.

I respectfully disagree with his horrendous charge, for which Mr. White will undoubtedly have to give an account to God shortly, except he repent.

There is not a shred of truth in his totally inaccurate estimation of the tragic situation any more than there was in the wild accusations leveled against Paul before Felix, by the “certain orator named Tertullus who said...”

“For we have found this man a pestilent fellow, and a mover of sedition among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes:

Who also hath gone about to profane the temple: whom we took, and would have judged according to our law.

But the chief captain Lysias came upon us, and with great violence took him away out of our hands, Commanding his accusers to come unto thee: by examining of whom thyself mayest take knowledge of all these things, whereof we accuse him.

And the Jews also assented, saying that these things were so.”
Acts 24:5-9

Paul simply denies the false charges.

“And they neither found me in the temple disputing with any man, neither raising up the people, neither in the synagogues, nor in the city:

Neither can they prove the things whereof they now accuse me.”
Acts 24:12-13

Nor was there a shred of truth in the accusations of those Jews who with the aid of certain lewd fellows of the baser sort set all the city of Thessalonica “in an uproar”, in order to harm Paul and Silas. Their war cry was a lie, based upon spiritual blindness.

“These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also;”
Acts 17:6b

Today the whole professing Christian world is in an uproar “The Anti KJV Only Conspirators” are accusing Bible believing “KJV Only” teachers of being responsible for the division, and uproar for which they themselves are totally responsible. Paul and Silas did not turn the world upside down. The men of whom our Lord had said: “Ye have made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition,” (Matthew 15:6) were personally responsible for the uproar. To put the matter simply. Their trading truth for tradition, had turned their religious world upside down.

“The LORD preserveth the strangers; he relieveth the fatherless and widow: but the way of the wicked he turneth upside down.”
Psalm 146:9

“Surely your turning of things upside down shall be esteemed as the potter’s clay: for shall the work say of him that made it, He made me not? or shall the thing framed say of him that framed it, He had no understanding?”
Isaiah 29:16

The teaching of Paul and Silas had turned, a great multitude right side up. (Acts 17:4)

The blind leaders of the blind moved with envy because their religious captives were being set free, by true teaching. They stirred the whole city and lay all of the blame for “troubling the people and the rulers of the city” upon the apostles. Acts 17:8. In spite of all the fuss and furor of the Jewish leaders we find Paul at a later date writing affectionately to a glorious Church.

The church of the Thessalonians

Remembering their:

1. WORK OF FAITH
2. LABOUR OF LOVE
3. PATIENCE OF HOPE

I Thess. 1:3.

Demonstrated by;

1. They turned to God from Idols vs 9
2. To serve the living and true God vs 9
3. To wait for His Son from heaven vs 10

I Thess 1:7-8 “So that ye were ensamples to all that believe in Macedonia and Achaia. For from you sounded out the word of the Lord not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith to God-ward is spread abroad; so that we need not to speak any thing.”

We might borrow a descriptive title from friends in New Hampshire and name these; “The Glorious Hope Church.”

The precious secret of the spiritual health of the Church is I Thess. 2:13, “For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.”

“The Anti King James Version only Conspirators”

Today we have a strange movement, - The Anti KJV Only Conspiracy. It is comprised of a very wide range of Bible teachers, scholars, preachers, and blasphemous bishops(“Whose damnation is just.” Rom 3:8c) who author books, denying;

a.) The Deity of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

b.) The virginity of Mary the mother of Jesus, prior to His birth.

c.) The necessity that our Lord’s blood must be shed in order for Him to make a soul saving atonement. They forget the unequivocal statement of Holy Scripture “without shedding of blood is no remission.” Heb. 9:22b

d.) Our Lord’s bodily resurrection from the dead. They reject the scripture; “If Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also in vain. Yea, and we also are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that He raised up Christ: (Romans 1:4) whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not ...And if Christ be not raised, YOUR FAITH IS VAIN; YE ARE YET IN YOUR SINS.” I Cor 15:14,15,17 see also 18-20.

e.) They substitute greatly corrupted manuscripts to replace the glorious Textus Receptus, in the New Testament of their equally corrupted new Bible Versions. In order to accomplish this great delusion they ignore;

f.) The slovenly writing of those ghastly things that they falsely brand "The Oldest and Best Manuscripts."

g.) The vast number of outright contradictions of all the manuscripts; especially Vaticanus and Sinaiticus.

h.) The fact that multitudes of professing protestant preachers and Bible teachers fall right into the arms of Romanism where when they follow the terribly mutilated Vaticanus to greatly assist in the devil's plan to destroy the influence of the Holy Bible known as The Authorized Version, or the King James Version.

i.) They strongly condemn students who reveal the terrible unbelief and occult practices of many who "father" the new perversions of the Scriptures.

The conspiracy encompasses such a vast range of heretics and false teachers, ranging from the most virulent, vicious and vociferous persons right down to many thousands of sincerely deceived, deluded persons who are in the evil conspiracy without being aware of the effect that by translating, selling, and using the new Bible Versions as a teaching tool, they are unconsciously contributing toward the devil’s plan to strike like a serpent at the very heart and foundation of the church of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

“Take heed that no man deceive you.”

Do I hear some one say “that its impossible, I use the new version and I love the Lord, satan could not possibly be using me to work against the Lord.” If this be your reaction may God bless you, but, “Come now, let us reason together, saith the LORD.” Isa 1:18a

In Matthew 16:16 Peter utters a great truth concerning our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ; “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.” He receives our Lord’s heart felt approval as follows. “Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 16:17.

Moments later our Lord’s sincere but erring follower receives a rebuke that must have shaken Peter severely when our Lord “turned, and said unto Peter, GET THEE BEHIND ME, SATAN: thou art an offense unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.” Matthew 16:23.

The Deceiver of the whole world

What had happened to Peter? Without a doubt; Peter glowing inwardly because of his and our Lord’s commendation becomes a prime target for the adversary. As our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ unfolds to His disciples His prophecy of the sufferings, that He would receive from the hands of the elders and chief priests at Jerusalem, and his death and resurrection, Satan strikes like a serpent puffing up Peter, as he did Eve in the Garden of Eden, the devil puts thoughts and words in the heart of the glowing heart that are spoken forth in an abortive effort to “correct” the words of our Lord Jesus.

It was the same as in the garden of Eden the serpent’s first words to Eve were “yea hath God said”; Eve listened and immediately the “correcting process” began.

The doubt is followed by an outright denial “ye shall not surely die.” The denial is rapidly followed by a delusion “ye shall be as gods...” Gen3:1,4b,5b.

The final result of the occult visitation was that the confused woman added to and also took away from the words that God had spoken. The result was the most disastrous event in the history of the world.

With her husband Adam, Eve shared in the fall of man. They died spiritually at the moment of their rebellion against the Word of God: the radiant glory of the sinless man and woman faded instantly. Adam and Eve were “dead in trespasses and in sins”; and the Bible tells us of God removing their self made fig leaf miniskirts, clothed them with a covering procured only by the shedding of blood; without which we read “is no remission.”

Perhaps one of my readers may say in effect;

“O that is all very well and Biblical, but I am sure that if the devil were affecting my thinking I would be aware of it, and able to avoid being part of a satanic conspiracy.”

Please do not be to sure of that.

In Matthew 26:31-35 once again we hear that beloved disciple who really loved the Lord Jesus, “correcting,” the Lord, as if He had erred in saying, “All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad. But after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee. Peter answered and said unto him, Though all men shall be offended because of thee, yet will I never be offended. Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. Peter said unto him, Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples.”

Every Christian ought to know of Peter’s proud but loving affirmation, “Though all men shall be offended because of thee, yet will I never be offended.”

In spite of our Lord’s gracious “correction” of His disciple, Peter again contradicts his Lord; “Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee.”

As we know, Peter did deny the Lord with oaths and curses. The result-- “He went out and wept bitterly.”

Again “The Anti KJV Only Conspiracy”

This business of “correcting” the Word of God by deleting 64080 words (according to G.A.R.) from the N.I.V. is basically satanic. Heading up the movement are many who in “lie in wait to deceive.” Ephesians 4:14-15; “That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:”

These men who in their hearts lie in wait to deceive are under direct control of the devil. From such persons emanate the “ Doctrines of devils” that flood a multitude of churches today. Paul writing to Timothy warns us; “Evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.” II Tim 3:13. Their doom is clearly foretold in the book of Jude.

The Tragedy of it all

Personally I feel that there are multitudes of true believers in the Lord Jesus who have been caught up in this web of lies which surround the so called Oldest and Best Manuscripts, which are claimed as the basic manuscripts beneath the multiplication of corrupt Greek Texts.

Unbeknown to themselves they are uttering words, phrases and doctrines concocted by the great enemy of the souls of men.

An outstanding Example

Dr. Franklin Logsdon who wrote the exceedingly blasphemous preface to “THE NEW AMERICAN STANDARD VERSION” found mercy of the Lord when his terror stricken heart realized the enormity of his sin, in eliminating the awe inspiring, terrible name of “Jehovah” from the N.A.S.V. with contempt. As follows;

“It is known that for many years YHWH has been translated as Yahweh. No complete certainty attaches to this pronunciation. However, it is felt by many who are in touch with the laity of our churches that this name conveys no religious or spiritual overtone.

It is strange, uncommon, and without sufficient religious and devotional background.

No amount of scholarly debate can overcome this deficiency. Hence, it was decided to avoid the use of this Name in the translation proper.”N.A.S.V. Preface P.9, Par.4.

Editorial Board

The Lockman Foundation

Here is abysmal ignorance, daring blasphemy, wicked impiety, combined with shameful scholarship, to produce an astonishingly false impression.

This blasphemous introduction brings the divine stamp of death and destruction on the product of the “Editorial Board of the Lockman Foundation.”

Comment on The Translation

By following Nestle’s 23rd Greek text, the N.A.S.V. exalts the errors and heresies of Westcott and Hort and Origen, both in the text and in the margins on numerous occasions.

By departing from the readings of the sickly Sinaiticus and the vile Vaticanus in many instances, those “scholars” who are responsible for the New American Standard Version confess, that, in not daring to follow their miserable idols, in all of their corruptness, they are basing their Version on manuscripts which they all know, are not truly reliable nor consistent witnesses.

May I also say, witnesses which conflict strongly with each other. “Codex B (Vaticanus) and its allies, (namely Sinaiticus) Herman Hoskier, in his monumental 2 volume, 908 page exposure of the depravity of the so called, “Oldest and best” manuscripts, list at least 3036 places where Sinaiticus and Vaticanus disagree strongly with each other, in the four Gospels alone. In every case one of the idols of the modern group of Anti ‘KJV only’ scholars errs pathetically: in many cases they are both so hopelessly in error that the framers of modern Greek text, wearied of turning frantically away from the titanic struggle, between the two main contenders for the dubious honour of being known as “oldest and best”, abandon both of them in order to seek a sensible solution to their problem; in other manuscripts. Who can properly estimate the total of the disagreements between these pillars, which with a small percentage of equally depraved manuscripts support the new versions of the bible?

James White discusses learnedly on the manuscripts

On page 154 of his KJV Controversy, Mr. White parrots the apostate and heretical Hort, in a Herculean effort to quieten the concern of himself and his readers concerning the great, and vast majority of manuscripts which agree in differing from the tiny percentage of those which are identified by the misnomer as, “the oldest and best”.

He writes, “All this demonstrates that we simply cannot simply “count” manuscripts, but must weigh them, looking at their general character, age, and text-type. Some manuscripts are simply more “important in helping us to find the original text than others.” By this sort of reasoning, because of a mind set, which is the result of believing, perhaps very sincerely, a lie, this man and all others who have fallen into the common error of the “Anti King James Version Only Conspiracy” are so bound that every bit of manuscript evidence must be bent to conform to that error, or be rejected as “unimportant”, while the manuscript which can be made to conform to their error is judged to be “important”.

“Let us weigh the Manuscripts”

James White has declared that “we must weigh the manuscripts.” Page 154, we shall oblige him, not using the outworn deceitful scales of “intrinsic probability,” nor the phantasy of “harmonization,” nor the deceitful “assured results,” nor the outright misrepresentation of the term, “expansion of piety,” in order to deprecate the true text, while seeking to elevate texts which are obviously depraved.

Throughout his book James White leans heavily, not on true scholarship, but on some of these phantasy products of a too vivid imagination.

So often does he use them to “prove” his point that those readers who are not well informed on the controversy must have difficulty in discerning when his arguments turn from fact to fancy, or rather fiction. Failure to see the trick of drawing a false conclusion from an apparent truth will spell the downfall of unthinking readers who are accustomed to being “told” what to believe.

Like little children trusting their mother as she gives them pills, there are many today who open their mouths wide and swallow the sugar coated poison of the exceedingly flawed reasoning of modern scholarship.

“New Version Scholars terminology rejected”

I reject with scorn the pretense of those pseudo scholars who try to invest themselves with an intuitive ability to know what the writers of Holy Scripture “thought.” These become guilty of stating their theories as if they were facts. In reality they are figments of the imagination. Turning away from frantic effort to make corrupted manuscripts to be preferred above those greatly superior to them, not only in numbers, but also in value, and totally rejecting the theory of “harmonization,” “assured results,” and “expansion of piety” as so many scholarly spider webs. I count them as, “the balances of deceit”.

Let the Prophet Hosea be Heard

Hosea 12:7 “He is a merchant, the balances of deceit are in his hand: he loveth to oppress.”

The Prophet Amos Condemns deceitful dealings

Amos 8:5 “When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell corn? and the sabbath, that we may set forth wheat, making the ephah small, and the shekel great, and falsifying the balances by deceit?”

The Prophet Micah has spoken

Micah 6:11 “Shall I count them pure with the wicked balances, and with the bag of deceitful weights?”

Proverbs 11:1 “A FALSE balance is abomination to the LORD: but a just weight is his delight.”

To the Law and to the Testimony

Isaiah 8:20 “To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.”

Theoretically at least, all sides will agree that the voice of scripture should be the first and the last word for any biblical problem. If God has spoken on the subject, and He has spoken, all other voices of speculation, opposition, or alternative meanings should fall silent.

A BIBLICAL BOMB SHELL

Mark 14:55-56 plainly declares that where witnesses do not agree they are in reality not witnesses.

“And the chief priests and all the council sought for witness against Jesus to put him to death; and found none.

For many bare false witness against him, but their witness agreed not together.”

Obviously the Word of God rejects the witness of those whose testimonies contradict each other.

The testimony of the Holy Spirit concerning the false witnesses; they “found none.”

This completely disqualifies not only the two chief witnesses against the King James Version, but also the handful of less prominent manuscripts used to support their discredited and rejected champions. The sickly Sinaiticus and the vile Vaticanus, which as we have already seen disqualified each other in the sum of at least 3036 important disagreements as to the text of the New Testament in Matthew- Mark - Luke - John.

It is important that my readers should understand that these two Biblically disqualified manuscripts, known also as Aleph (Sinaiticus) and B. (Vaticanus) along with codex A. ( Alexandrinus), codex C. (Ephraemi) and codex D. (or codex Bezae) constitute a very important part of James White’s evidence against the King James Version readings.

These ALL disagree among themselves in a most enlightening manner as follows.

The Five Ancient Uncials

Although Dean Burgon did not consider the received text to be the absolute standard of excellence, nor did he make the Textus Receptus the final standard of appeal. He says:

“All critics-wherever found- at all times, have collated with the commonly received Texts, but only as the most convenient standard of comparison, not surely, as the absolute standard of Excellence.

The result of the experiment to (and I beg to say it was an exceedingly laborious experiment) has been to demonstrate that the five manuscripts in question stand apart from one another in the following proportions:

842:(A): 1798 (C): 2370, (B) : 3392 (Aleph): 4697 (D)”

But would not the same result have been obtained if the “five old uncials” had been referred to any other common standard which can be named?

In the mean time, what is the inevitable inference from this phenomenon but that four out of the five must be while all the five may be outrageously depraved documents? Instead of being fit to be made our exclusive guides to the Truth of Scripture, - as critics of the school of Tischendorf and Tregelles would have us believe that they are?”

John Burgon, replying to a friend who had publicly criticized his findings regarding these, (in)famous “Oldest and Best??” manuscripts sets before his readers, that which “amused” his friend who had been listening to Dr. Hort.

“Singular to relate, the first, second, fourth, and fifth of these codices (B. Aleph, C, D, ) but especially B.(Vaticanus) and Aleph (Sinaiticus), have within the last twenty years established a tyrannical ascendancy over the imagination of the critics, which can only be fitly spoken of as a blind superstition. It matters nothing that all four are discovered on careful scrutiny to differ essentially, not only from ninety- nine out of one hundred of the whole body of the extant MSS, besides, but even from one another.

This last circumstance, obviously fatal to their corporate pretension is unaccountably overlooked.

Our God demands meticulous obedience

Our gracious God sounds a stern warning to all who tamper with His words.

"Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you." Deuteronomy 4:2

The Penalty for Adding to or taking away from the Word of God.

Revelation 22:18 “For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:”

If any man shall take away;

“And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.” Rev. 22:19

Today, when multitudes feel free to “add unto” or “take away” from God’s Word it is well that we should remember that those who exercise their minds to do so will inevitably experience the “add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:” and the “take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.”

“God is not the Author of Confusion”

The foregoing charts clearly reveal a little of the depredation of the so called, “Oldest and Best” manuscripts. These are by the multitude of alterations, substitutions, modifications, additions, and omissions, with the resulting confusion, not the work of God’s Holy Spirit. They are Satanic substitutes for the truth of God’s Word.

Another World Class Scholar Speaks Herman C. Hoskier

Hoskier in his 908 page exposure of the corruption’s of Codex B (Vaticanus), and its allies, (namely Sinaiticus), these being the main stay of the new version movement, does a masterful examination of these hideous monsters of deception.

In his truly scholarly investigation of the main manuscripts used by “The Anti King James Version Only Conspiracy” in an abortive effort to down grade truth and elevate folly. Hoskier, through painstaking research unveils the incredible depravity of the two main manuscripts that underlie the Greek Texts of the equally corrupt modern versions of the Bible. Codices B (Vaticanus) and Aleph (Sinaiticus), exalted to the skies by Westcott and Hort, and their accomplices, were given a totally undeserved evaluation that has deceived the majority of the modern world of scholars.

Remember Mark 14: 55-56 “And the chief priests and all the council sought for witness against Jesus to put him to death; and found none. For many bare false witness against him, but their witness agreed not together.”

The 1022 differences in the Gospel of John works out to an average of one important contradiction of each other in every verse of this Gospel, with approximately 147 differences floating around, seeking to fit in with verses already occupied. This is one of many ways these infamous manuscripts continually contradict each other.

In every case one of the two has to be wrong, while in many cases both of them err from the truth. Plainly speaking each brands the other as a liar.

The idols of Westcott and Hort

One can not help but question the deviant thinking of Westcott and Hort and their fellow conspirators, who accepted the dictum of Hort and Westcott, that where these two widely differing manuscripts agreed with each other, the King James Version Should be corrected.

What have we here? Conspiracy or Insanity?

Scrivener Speaks of the Sickly Sinaiticus

Prebendary Scrivener, another world class scholar, in his “Full Collation of the Codex Sinaiticus with the Received Text of the New Testament,” reports 15,000 alterations in the text.

One has rightly reasoned thus;

Originally Sinaiticus was either an accurate manuscript or else it was inaccurate. This stands to reason.

If it originally was an inaccurate manuscript, it is certain that 15,000 alterations later it bears no resemblance to accuracy, and has no right to a hearing when it comes to the matter of revising the Word of God as we have it in the Authorized King James Version.

If, on the other hand it was not an accurate manuscript to begin with, and its owners felt it needed to be recast in 15,000 places to make it even of slight value, there is no reason why it’s voice should be allowed to breath it’s foul breath in a diabolical effort to dethrone the matchless beauty and accuracy of our Authorized Version. Nor should it be named as one of the oldest and best manuscripts.

What about that Oldest claim?

The claim of being the best, accepted by the bulk of scholars has been exploded by renowned scholars.

Scrivener reveals that many thousands of the Sinaitic readings were introduced into the text in or about the seventh century, with a few as late as the twelfth century. This explodes the myth of a fourth century classic.

A Well Kept Secret

Regarding those thousands of corrections in the seventh century, Scrivener has this to say. “The one object of this corrector was to assimilate the Codex to manuscripts more in vogue in his time, and approaching far nearer to our modern Textus Receptus.”

“For the greater part of the changes throughout the whole manuscript belong to C. , of about the seventh century, before breathings and accents became habitual. The frequent repetition of the note (C cum Steph.) in the ensuing collation will prove that the one object of this corrector was to assimilate the Codex to manuscripts more in vogue in his time, and approaching far nearer to our modern Textus Receptus.” (A full collation of the Codex Sinaiticus with the received text of the New Testament) Page XXIII

It is apparent then, that the owners of the manuscript Sinaiticus were well aware of the facts.

A.) That their manuscript was hopelessly corrupted and required at least 15,000 corrections in order to give it a “face lift,” that would enable it to appear genuine.

B.) They were also aware that there were in existence valuable manuscripts that abounded with thousands of readings that correspond to the Textus Receptus, the Greek text that underlies the “Impregnable Rock of Holy Scripture,” known as the Authorized King James Version.

CONCLUSIONS

My conclusion is that the Greek manuscripts which compose the Textus Receptus were in existence long before Sinaiticus got its cosmetic surgery, at the hands of desperately defeated scholarships, who borrowed or stole their corrections from manuscripts recognized by the true churches as being the Word of God.

To proclaim the “sickly Sinaiticus” with its 15,000 corrections to be one of the Oldest and Best manuscripts, is to petrify the brain power, and bring to an end the reasoning power of every one that believes that lie.

All the scholars, bible teachers and ministers who do not completely reject the false claims for preeminence for the “Oldest and Best?” manuscripts, lose their power to perceive right from wrong, truth from error, on account of the fatal influence of the deadly virus with which those manuscripts are infected.

For James White and the small army of scholars, including Westcott and Hort, who as a result of believing the lie are unable to have their brains function properly, in the realm of manuscripts weight and authority, to set Sinaiticus before us as one of the “Oldest and Best” manuscripts, is comparable to a government that would choose a very old man, terribly ill with every known disease, having experienced 15,000 surgical procedures, and finding him no better in any sense, in spite of the fact that some fine medicine had been given him; proceed to make him the “Minister of Health and Fitness,” and set him before the people as an example to follow explicitly in order to attain perfect health and strength. Of course the government would find some doctors who would praise it’s wisdom in choosing such a fine minister of health.

Vaticanus the Philistine Giant

The same reasoning may be applied to the vile Vaticanus. This horribly crippled, mutilated manuscript, although written on fine vellum is battle scarred beyond recognition. This was Hort’s highly prized idol elevated far above all other manuscripts, which far exceed it in purity and accuracy.

Before the unmerited authority and dignity invested in this idol by Westcott and Hort and fellow conspirators, a multitude of scholars grovel with their faces to the ground. It’s oraculer utterances must be received as though they were actually the Word of God.

This is not scholarship, it is mental and spiritual slavery.

As we draw near with bated breath to examine this powerful, heavily armoured adversary to the Authorized King James Version, and to the Textus Receptus, we find it is a scare crow, or an Egyptian mummy...

"How New is the New International Version?" C.J. Carter P.16.

The spiritual and doctrinal significance of the deleted portions is of tremendous importance. Only a mind blinded to the obvious can fail to see that a careful examination of the deletions move steadily in a direction that tends to water down great doctrines of the Scripture, while at the same moment leaving the door open for the introduction of error.

It is important that my readers should note that not one of the world class scholars whose findings I have recorded this far, namely, John Burgon, Herman Hoskier, or Prebendary Scrivener, could be properly classed as a “King James Only” proponent.

Yet these are the men who have delivered immense blows which devastate the claims of supremacy for those corrupted manuscripts that are pressed on to a gullible generation under the misnomer of, “the oldest and best” manuscripts.

James White issues a call to “weigh the manuscripts.” This I maintain that the scholars have done, according to his expressed declaration, that “we , must weigh them, looking at their general character, age and text type.”

These mighty men have defeated him on his own chosen ground. Personally I am grateful for the labours of these scholarly men who preceded our present generation.

Only a tiny portion of their mighty voices of disapproval has here been brought to bear on Mr. White’s challenge to weigh the manuscripts.

Our gracious God has provided a much simpler and more effective rejection. For true believer’s it ends the controversy.

I have weighed these manuscripts that are so essential to Mr. White’s ferocious attack on the “King James Only” advocates in the balances of Holy Scripture and found them wanting.

We find the death sentence placed on every one of the manuscripts that he uses in his abortive effort to “correct” the splendid readings of the Authorized Version. By the testimony of Mark 14:55-56 we establish the truth of the matter;

“And the chief priests and all the council sought for witness against Jesus to put Him to death; and found none.

For many bare false witness against him, but their witness agreed not together.”

“The Oldest and Best Manuscripts” are rejected Biblically.

Obviously, witnesses that “agree not together” are rejected not only by the Holy Spirit; but even the cold callous, murderous chief priests dare not put our Lord to death by discordant testimony.

Quite apart from the harsh discordant voices of the “five old Uncials,” and a few of the papyri manuscripts that appear to back him up, James White is faced with a problem that is life sized.

Let him have but a “moment of truth,” to confess that the two main supports, (Vaticanus - Sinaiticus) render a mass of contradictory evidence. If he will honestly face the facts here presented he must retire from the “Controversy,” and the “Conspiracy.”

Presently he has been shown as using Biblically and scholarly rejected manuscripts to give a false sense of authority to his latest book; “The King James Only Controversy- Can we trust the modern translations?”

My answer is, “No Mr. White, we cannot trust any Version that owes its existence to the use of such discordant testimony, and you should not. May I remind you that very, very soon you will be judged by the “Judge of all the earth” for promoting versions that have taken His awe inspiring name, Jehovah, truncated that glorious name to “Yahweh”; then cast it out entirely as a reprehensible thing. Which the editorial board of your highly endorsed New American Standard Version rejects with it’s blasphemous; “It is known that for many years YHWH has been transliterated as Yahweh. However, it is felt by many who are in touch with the laity of our churches that this name conveys no spiritual overtones. It is strange, uncommon, and without sufficient religious devotional background. No amount of scholarly debate can overcome this deficiency. Hence it was decided to avoid the use of this name in the translation proper.”

In recommending and using this type of book, scholars, ministers, bible teachers and vendors of the new versions, are placing themselves under divine judgments, from which no man can hide himself, “in secret places, that I shall not see him? saith the LORD. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the LORD. ... Which think to cause my people to forget my name by their dreams which they tell every man to his neighbor, as their fathers have forgotten my name for Baal. ... for ye have perverted the words of the living God, of the LORD of hosts our God.” Jeremiah 23:24, 27,36b

A mystery is cleared

Our God’s great and glorious Name is not Yahweh it is Jehovah.

Who are the culprits that changed the Name of the Eternal God?, so full of glory and spiritual overtones that Bible teachers find no end of enriching ministry in that Name alone to fill hours of soul stirring ministry; into a shameful substitute which leaves the scholars singing their funeral dirge column 1, paragraph 2 “without sufficient religious background.” etc.

I have read of the dreadful possibility of our God having to blot certain names out of His book Exodus 32:33, Deut. 29:20, Psalms 69:28.

“He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.” Rev 3:5

But never before reading the preface to the N.A.S.V., New American Standard Version, have I ever heard of anyone blotting Jehovah out of that which is advertised as God’s own Book.

Our question is, who dared to take the Name Jehovah so full of glory, and change it to the unpronounceable, meaningless, listless, lifeless, unwanted Yahweh?

According to Norman L. Geisler and Norman E. Nix we will find the answer in their “General Introduction to the Bible.” Page 584

“Another fairly literal translation was Joseph Bryant Rotherham’s The Emphasized Bible (1872: Old Testament, 1897-1902). The first two editions were based on Tregelles’s text, where as the third followed Westcott and Hort.

That version was one of the first to render the ineffable name of God in the Old Testament as "Yahweh.”

Behold the conspiracy

Rotherham truncates the glorious Name Jehovah to Yahweh.

The New American Standard Version wipes the unintelligible Yahweh out of existence.

This is one of the versions which James White seeks to defend in his latest book.

Apparently the men whose plaudits appear on the cover and within his book are in total agreement with this monstrous evil, and willing to try to give and account to God for their part in causing His people to forget His Name.

Heaven’s comment on the heathen

Who would take to themselves the “house of God” for a possession.

“So persecute them with thy tempest, and make them afraid with thy storm. Fill their faces with shame; that they may seek Thy Name, O LORD. Let them be confounded and troubled for ever; yea, let them be put to shame, and perish: That men may know thou, whose mane alone is JEHOVAH, art most high over all the earth.” Psalm 83:15-18

Frank Logsdon’s Testimony

“Well spoke The prophet of our Heavenly Father; “Who is a God like unto thee that pardoneth iniquity, And passeth by thy transgression of the remnant of His heritage? He retaineth not His anger for ever. BECAUSE HE DELIGHTETH IN MERCY.” Micah 7:18 (Capitals mine. CJC)

Dr. S. Franklin Logsdon the man who wrote the blasphemous, preface to the New American Standard Bible AD 1963 found forgiveness and mercy from our God, who delighteth in mercy.

When men and women become embroiled in activity that is displeasing to God, he prefaces His offer of mercy by making the evil doers conscious of their sin against the Eternal God! Very often, I should say always, God uses His Word, as the Sword of the Spirit, in order to strike terror into the hearts of those He is so willing to forgive.

II Peter 2:9; “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is long suffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”

Perhaps the Holy Spirit might use Hebrews 9:27-28; “And as it is appointed unto man once to die, but after this the judgment: so Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many: and unto them that look for him shall He appear the second time without sin unto salvation.”.

Psalms 120:2 “Deliver my soul, O LORD, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue.”

I saw right through the exceedingly transparent vesture of tolerance, and beheld clearly the “cloak of maliciousness” that could not be hidden. The author hurled invectives at the Christians who have simply obeyed the scriptural injunction of Jude vs. 3; “Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was one delivered unto the saints.”

Very properly I branded his book, “hate literature.” I trembled for the effect it would have on young believers and even older ones who are not aquainted with the great deceptive error that lies beneath, and permeates the whole question of the new version movement.

The exceedingly flawed reasoning of the author stood out so prominently, I marveled at the very thought that, anyone, let alone pastors, would be so ignorant as to believe it. The latest word is that many pastors have received this book with eagerness.

For a while this was a mystery to me. Now I understand these men had no option. They had to believe this mountain of error. As the Lord enables I shall return to this subject a little later.

I had noted with some increasing indignation that author White, and D.A. Carson. (one of those who endorses the book) who is author of a similar deception, “The King James Version Debate,” are alike guilty of the same hypocrisy.

James White and D.A. Carson, and those who endorse their attitude toward the KJV;

Matthew 7:3-5 “And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?”

These persons hurl their accusations one after another, against Christians who have not been deceived by the flood of strange new versions of the Bible. Their little halos gleaming with (un) righteous indignation, apparently supremely unconscious of the fact the very book they are writing reveals the beam of hypocritical censorial criticism.

A careful, unbiased, prayerful reading of their writings against the Christians who stand up for the Authorized King James Version, reveals the fact that each of them is guilty of the very things which they condemn in others. Their deceived supporters are completely blinded to this obvious fault.

Human Nature

Human nature without the control of God’s Holy Spirit is a source of only evil.

Human nature is so keenly aware of the faults in others, and oblivious to its own.

D.A. Carson’s “The King James Version Debate, and J.R. White’s, “The King James Only Controversy,” are excellent examples of this strange delusion, which is operating in the minds of the authors.

These ever increasing denials of Biblical doctrines lead on rapidly to step #3;

A delusion “ye shall be as gods”.

This is the delusion of the New Age. Ungodly persons have in their minds stripped our LORD, of His Deity, and claim deity for their own sin sick souls. The strange occult perversions of the Scripture are doing their deadly work by means of “doctrine of devils”

This is indeed a formidable attack on the position of those who were very properly holding fast to the pure Word of God as we have it in the Authorized King James Version. Undoubtedly Mr. White will have many glowing testimonies from precious souls that he has “helped” to fall away from the truth of the glorious gospel of Christ.

A WORD OF COMFORT

To any whose faith may have been shaken by the powerful statements of Mr. White, and consequently are in a state of grave concern concerning the incomparable majesty and superiority of the Authorized King James Version, over all others, I have news for you.

THE COMFORT AND CONSULTATION OF THE SCRIPTURES

“Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompense of reward.” Hebrews 10:35

There is no reason to fear the author or his scholarship. James White is by no means the final authority on this question. Mr. White is very, very much the junior of these scholars that I have quoted thus far. His reasoning is frequently flawed. Consequently, the conclusions he reaches from his own faulty reasoning, must reflect the error of his mind.

“Take heed that no man deceive you” Matt. 24:4b

QUESTION

Are you then saying that James White is deliberately deceiving his readers?

MY ANSWER

Not at all, undoubtedly his readers are being led astray: but I prefer to think of him as one who is full of zeal and sincerity. I trust that I may never have to alter my heart’s desire to think of him as one who is himself sincerely deceived, until the day that our gracious God mercifully opens his eyes, as He did for NASV promoter Dr. S. Franklin Logsdon.

Dr. Logsdon has informed me that he found himself unable to answer the questions that were asked of him concerning the NASV. In a master piece of understatement he wrote;

“I BEGAN TO SENSE THAT SOMETHING WAS NOT RIGHT ABOUT THE NASV ( NEW AMERICAN STANDARD VERSION). UPON INVESTIGATION, I WROTE MY VERY DEAR FRIEND, MR. LOCKMAN, EXPLAINING THAT I WAS FORCED TO RENOUNCE ALL ATTACHMENT TO THE NASV. ....

I CAN AVER THAT THE PROJECT (N.A.S.V.) WAS PRODUCED BY THOROUGHLY SINCERE MEN WHO HAD THE BEST OF INTENTIONS. THE PRODUCT, HOWEVER, IS GRIEVOUS TO MY HEART AND HELPS TO COMPLICATE MATTERS IN THESE ALREADY TROUBLOUS TIMES.” (Capitals mine. C.J.C.)

Dr. Logsdon to Dr. D O Fuller, Author of “Which Bible” and “True or False”.

The terror stricken scholar, having read Dr. Fuller’s book wrote as follows:

“I carried these titles with me all summer long, and immersed myself in them. I have never underscored books so much as I have done in these. They enhanced my appreciation of the KJV as the true revelation of God as no other writings.”

“As a member of the editorial committee in the production of the AMPLIFIED NEW TESTAMENT, we honestly and conscientiously felt it was a mark of intelligence to follow “Westcott and Hort.” Now, what you have in these books strikes terror to my heart. It proves alarmingly that being conscientiously wrong is a most dangerous state of being. God help us to be more cautious, lest we fall into the snares of the arch deceiver.” S. Franklin Logsdon

“No, at this point I am not saying that Mr. White and his Zamzummims are deliberately deceiving their readers. Although I feel strongly that these men are terribly deceived. I would like to agree with Dr. Logsdon’s assessment of the scholars who are producing these monstrosities, that they were sincere men like himself, conscientiously wrong and therefore, in the gravest danger of falling into the snares of the arch deceiver.”

I will go a step further than Dr. Logsdon, and say that in my estimation, every scholar who delves into the vile junk heap of miserable manuscripts, which for the source of inspiration for the modern Greek texts from which such a foul stream of corrupted versions proceed has already fallen into the dreadful snares of the arch deceiver of the human race. The only hope for these translators is found in the pages of Holy Scripture.

II Tim 2:24-26 “And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.”

MY CHALLENGE TO THE SCHOLARSHIP OF JAMES WHITE

As revealed in his “KJV Only Controversy.”

James White P.7 Introduction presents two splendid assertions.

A) “I am no friend to those who would seek to undercut the very foundations of the Christian faith.”

B) “I have gone to great lengths to be accurate in representing a many faceted movement.”

Very properly Mr. White requests, “I only ask the same in return. Critical thought is encouraged. Rather I encourage the thinking that is marked by wisdom, a wisdom that examines the facts and holds to the highest standard of truth.”

Gladly and prayerfully I accept Mr. White’s invitation to offer “critical thought”, and shall be pleased to play the game according to his excellent rules that he has set before his readers.

Before engaging Mr. White in the actual critique of his writings I claim the right to add a few requirements by which he also will be bound. First of all, Mr. White will of course be bound by his own rules as well as mine. Secondly, neither of us may dare to cry “vilification”, when we are simply quoting what certain scholars have spoken or placed in writing their errors, heresies, animosities, or personal convictions. It seems to me strange that any one might be accused of vilification when he or she simply brings into the debate the actual writing that reveal the “Thinking, Theories, and Theologies” of the men who are often referred to as the fathers of the new version movement. Thirdly. Let it be understood that the cry, “Out of context” be recognized as evidence that the debater has nothing more sensible to say in the matter. In other words it is an acknowledgment that the one who cries “out of context” acknowledges defeat unless he can show that such really is the case, when a fuller quote would have shed a different light on the point in question. Fourthly. In this debate when Westcott, Hort, or any of their accomplices are correctly quoted, a simple negation is not acceptable. Nor will I accept a claim that the biographers of Westcott, and Hort; in each case one of their own sons, tone down and mitigate the horrible heresies, and the doctrines of devils which blinded and bound the thinking and utterances of these two men and their associates. These sons were not apologizing for their fathers they were proud of them.

I do trust that Mr. White and my readers will agree that his requirements and mine also are fair rules by which the debate will be ruled and the matter decided.

SECONDS OUT OF THE RING

My response to James White’s, “Critical thought is encouraged.” In other words James is inviting accurate and truthful criticism. By the Grace of God he shall have it.

I challenge his answer to the question regarding the character of Westcott and Hort on page 244 as being hopelessly inadequate. His readers, if they believe his answer, will be most assuredly led astray into soul destroying error.

Previously in this essay, I have outlined the question and most of his remarks. Because I want to believe in the integrity of Mr. White and his expressed desire for us to hold to the highest standard of truth, I must believe that he is ignorant of the very subject that he has broached.

The Question: Weren’t Westcott and Hort occultists, evil men, heretics, closet Roman Catholics, and number of other accusations?

White’s Answer: At this point I will deal with only one of two tremendously misleading points in his reply and I quote.

“Both were professing Christians. Both professed faith in the deity of Christ. His saving death, His resurrection.”

Mr. White’s reply is neither scholarly, nor is it by any means meeting his own stipulation, requiring that we examine the facts and hold to the highest standards of truth.

His answer is to all practical and scholarly purposes, void of truth. Granted there are a number of statements in his reply that there is no need to question; but taken altogether his reply is completely misleading. The answer displays one of two things, either Mr. White is deliberately deceiving his readers, or he is blatantly ignorant of the facts. I hasten to say that I choose to call it ignorance at this point rather than incredible dishonesty.

THE TRUTH THAT MR. WHITE DEMANDS FROM OTHERS.

I sadly present the terrible truth.

"HORT AN APOSTATE”

Hort was an apostate from the Evangelical faith in which he was brought up.

MATERNAL INFLUENCE

“Of his father’s mother, Hort Jr. writes, “She was a woman of great mental power, which she brought to bear on every detail of daily life... Her religious feelings were deep and strong. Circumstances had made her an adherent of the Evangelical school, and she was to a certain degree hampered by it: the Oxford movement filled her with dread and anxiety as to its possible effect on her son. She was unable to enter into his theological views, which to her school and generation SEEMED A DESERTION OF THE ANCIENT WAYS; thus, pathetically enough, there came to be a barrier between mother and son. .... it is sad that he should have had to recognize that the point of view was different. She studied and knew her Bible well, and her own religious life was most carefully regulated.” Life & Letters of F.J.A. Hort, Vol. 1,p.7.

BIBLE BELIEVING EVANGELICALS AWAKEN

NOTE:

       I.            Hort was brought up by a well taught Bible believing evangelical mother.

    II.            She recognized the fact that her son had departed from the faith once delivered to the saints and was saddened thereby.

 III.            Hort acknowledged his departure from the Evangelical faith.

“Further I agree with them (i.e. Editors of Essays & Reviews) in condemning many leading specific doctrines of the popular theology as, to say the least, containing much superstition and immorality of a very pernicious kind... The positive doctrines even of the Evangelicals seem to me perverted rather than untrue. There are I fear, still more serious differences between us (i.e. Editors of Essays & Reviews) on the subject of authority, AND ESPECIALLY THE AUTHORITY OF THE BIBLE.” Life & Letters, Vol. 1, p. 400. We understand then upon the authority of his own declamation against Evangelical Bible believer’s doctrines, and his rejection of the authority of the Bible, that Hort’s mother’s great concern for her son was justified. Hort was an apostate.

Obviously, Hort’s rejection of Biblical authority, while very real, was more subtle than that of the authors of “Essays and Reviews”. One can not help but wonder just what sort of ‘authority’, Hort would claim for the Bible, while he openly condemned many leading specific doctrines of the popular theology, and branding evangelical positive doctrines as perverted rather than untrue?

APOSTASY IS A SNARE OF THE DEVIL

Hort Jr. continues his revelation concerning his father.

“A word is perhaps necessary to explain his religious development at this period. So far, as has been shown, HE HAD BEEN BROUGHT UP IN THE DOCTRINE OF THE EVANGELICAL SCHOOL...the effects of this training were doubtless modified in the atmosphere of Rugby ...AT A NOT MUCH LATER PERIOD HOWEVER HE OUTGREW THE EVANGELICAL TEACHING, WHICH HE CAME TO REGARD AS SECTARIAN...” Ibid., p. 41. (Capitals mine. C.J.C.)

“HENCE HE WAS LED TO SEEK FIRMER FOUNDATIONS THAN HE COULD FIND IN THE EVANGELICAL POSITION... HE COULD NOT DISCOVER THE RELIGIOUS PHILOSOPHY WHICH HE DESIDERATED.” Ibid. p.61. (All capitals in quotes are mine. C.J.C.)

Let us now consider from his own admission the teachings for which he exchanged the glorious doctrines of Holy Scripture. Here are some of the fables which were received as if they were truth when Dr. Hort “outgrew” the evangelical teaching.

HORT NO LONGER ABLE TO DISTINGUISH TRUTH

“I am very far from pretending to understand completely the ever renewed vitality of Mariolatry. But is it not much accounted for, on the evil side, by the natural revertence of the religious instinct to idolatry and creature worship and aversion to the Most High; and, ON THE GOOD SIDE, by a right reaction from the inhuman and semi-diabolical character with which God is invested in all modern orthodoxies-Zeus and Prometheus over again? (See page 25). IN PROTESTANT COUNTRIES THE FEARFUL NOTION, ‘Christ the believer’s God’ is the result. In Romish countries the Virgin is a nearer and more attractive object, not rejected by the dominant creed; and the Divine Son retires into a distant cloud world with the Father, ... Another idea has lately occurred to me: is not Mariolatry displacing much worship of scattered saints, and so becoming a tendency towards unity of worship? ...I HAVE BEEN PERSUADED FOR MANY YEARS THAT MARY WORSHIP AND ‘JESUS’ WORSHIP HAVE VERY MUCH IN COMMON IN THEIR CAUSES AND THEIR RESULTS. Perhaps the whole question may be said to be involved in the true idea of mediation, which is almost universally corrupted in one or both of two opposite directions. On the one hand we speak and think as if there were no real bringing near, such as the N.T. tells of, but only an interposition between two permanently distant objects. ON THE OTHER WE CONDEMN ALL SECONDARY HUMAN MEDIATORS AS INJURIOUS TO THE ONE, AND SHUT OUR EYES TO THE INDESTRUCTIBLE FACT OF EXISTING HUMAN MEDIATION WHICH IS TO BE FOUND EVERYWHERE. BUT THIS LAST ERROR CAN HARDLY BE EXPELLED TILL PROTESTANTS UNLEARN THE CRAZY HORROR OF THE IDEA OF PRIESTHOOD.” Ibid., Vol. 11, pp. 49-51

THE RAPE OF HORT’S MIND IS FURTHER REVEALED!

“I confess I have no repugnance to the primitive doctrine of a ransom paid to Satan, though neither am I prepared to give full assent to it. BUT I CAN SEE NO OTHER POSSIBLE FORM IN WHICH THE DOCTRINE OF A RANSOM IS AT ALL TENABLE; ANYTHING IS BETTER THAN THE NOTION OF A RANSOM PAID TO THE FATHER.” Life & Letters., Vol. 1, p. 428. (Capitals mine. C.J.C.)

Defenders of Dr. Hort admit that he was rather “weak” on the atonement. That admission is a masterpiece of understatement.

The depths of this repudiation of the truth is indicated by his scathing reference to the subject, when he suggests that Mariolatry may be accounted for,

“On the good side, by a right reaction from the inhuman and semi-diabolical character with which God is invested in all modern orthodoxies-Zeus and Prometheus over again? In Protestant countries the fearful notion, ‘CHRIST THE BELIEVER’S GOD’ is the result:” Ibid., Vol. 2, p. 50. (Capitals mine. C.J.C.)

To whom is Mr. Hort opening up the thinking of his deluded mind? None other than Bruce Foss Westcott, co-conspirator with him to destroy the Textus Receptus, the Greek text which underlies the incomparable Authorized Version, commonly known as the KJV.

THE DEPTH OF IGNORANCE OF HORT AND WESTCOTT

What unfathomable darkness in the mind of Hort in this confidential letter to his fellow schemer, B.F. Westcott.

His willingness to treat the Atonement made for our sins by our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ as a ransom paid to Satan - rather than a ransom paid to the Father reveals shocking ignorance, or deliberate rejection of the witness of the Holy Scriptures. The Word of God gives the lie to the man to whom all users of the new versions owe such a debt of delusion Hort forgets:

“How much more shall the Blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit, OFFERED HIMSELF WITHOUT SPOT TO GOD, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? Hebrews 9:14

Incidentally from Hebrews 9:13 to the very end of the Book is not found in the VILE Vaticanus manuscript. From the pages of the Old Testament the voice of the Evangelical Prophet gives the lie to the spiritual father of your new versions:

“All we like sheep have gone astray, we have turned every one to his own way; AND THE LORD HATH LAID ON HIM THE INIQUITY OF US ALL. Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.” Isaiah 53:6,10. THE BLACKNESS OF DARKNESS IN HORT’S MIND

When Hort states that all modern orthodoxies invest our God with a semi-diabolical character, he simply reveals the lingering influence of the occult world in his own mind.

His likening the glorious Atonement of our Lord on our behalf to Zeus and Prometheus is blasphemy in the highest degree. Hort’s reference in which he compares the sacrificial death of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ to Zeus and Prometheus reveals such occult thinking that at the early age of thirty-four his brain could no longer stand the strain of such evil thoughts.

ZEUS AND PROMETHEUS

In Greek mythology a diabolical parody on the atonement. The god Zeus decided that human beings must live without the benefit of fire for cooking in order to compel mankind to eat raw flesh.

Prometheus stole fire from Mount Olympus and gave it to humanity. Zeus was very angry and punished Prometheus, by chaining him naked to a post in the mountains where ravenous birds would come each day and eat his liver. The liver was supernaturally renewed every night.

After many years of suffering in this manner, Prometheus is released with the consent of Zeus. The final scene before us is the supreme deity with his father’s curse endured for so many years, finally released. Prometheus becomes the hero who endured this awesome suffering because of his love for the human race.

Who can fail to see in Hort’s blasphemous comparison a diabolical distortion of the glorious doctrine of the Atonement?

This also is a control of the mind by our adversary the devil. Do not say that this is vilification. It is Biblical truth that Mr. White demands. My evidence, is the truth taught by the Holy Spirit through the Apostle Paul:

“If our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world, (Satan) hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.” 2 Corinthians 4:3-4.

THE ANTI KING JAMES ONLY VERSION CONSPIRACY.

HORT’S REJECTION OF THE ATONEMENT, BLASPHEMOUS AND COMPLETE.

DR. HORT AND THE ATONEMENT

It is often only a step from confusion regarding man’s origin, to confusion regarding that which determines his destiny. That is his attitude towards the atonement.

In Hort’s case it was so. He found great difficulty in accepting the truth that our Lord and Saviour “bore our sins in His own body on the tree.” 1 Peter 2:24.

In spite of the fact that the Scripture plainly teaches, “Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us” (Gal 3:13), Hort found the doctrine of “substitutionary atonement, most unacceptable.”

HORT TO F.D. MAURICE. November 16th 1849:

“O that Coleridge, while showing the notion of a fictitious substituted righteousness, of a transferable stock of good actions, obscured the truth of man’s restoration in the Man who perfectly acted out the idea of man, had expounded the truth, (for such I am sure, there must be) that underlies the corresponding heresy, (as it appears to me) of a FICTITIOUS SUBSTITUTED PENALTY.” Ibid., Vol. 1, p. 120. HORT TO WESTCOTT. October 15th 1860:

“I entirely agree... with what you there say on the Atonement, having for many years believed that the absolute union of the Christian (OR RATHER OF MAN) with Christ Himself, is the spiritual truth of which the popular doctrine of substitution is an immoral and material counterfeit... Certainly nothing can be more unscriptural than the modern limiting of Christ’s bearing our sins and sufferings to His death; BUT INDEED THAT IS ONLY ONE ASPECT OF AN ALMOST UNIVERSAL HERESY.” Ibid., p. 430. DR. HORT BECOMES EXAMINING CHAPLAIN FOR BISHOP ELY. (DR. HAROLD BROWNE)

“Before accepting this post he candidly explained to the Bishop that objection might be taken to his views, especially on the doctrine of the Atonement; but to his great relief, the Bishop was perfectly satisfied to take him as he found him.” Ibid., Vol. 11, p.57. (Capitals mine.C.J.C.)

Let us at this point keep in mind the words of Paul to Timothy: “THOU HAST FULLY KNOWN MY DOCTRINE....” II Tim. 3:10a.

The question before us is this; did Bishop Ely fully know Hort’s doctrine on the atonement when he accepted him as examining Chaplain?

HORT TO BISHOP ELY. November 8th 1871:

“My fear is that, partly in views and still more in sympathies, I do not sufficiently conform to any of the recognized standards to be a fit person for the special post which you offer me ... I have, I trust a firm AND ASSURED BELIEF IN THE REALITY OF REVELATION, THE AUTHORITY OF SCRIPTURE, THE UNIQUENESS AND SUPREMACY OF THE GOSPELS... Moreover MR. MAURICE HAS BEEN A DEAR FRIEND OF MINE FOR TWENTY THREE YEARS, AND I HAVE BEEN DEEPLY INFLUENCED BY HIS BOOKS... BUT THEY HAVE LED ME TO DOUBT WHETHER THE CHRISTIAN FAITH IS ADEQUATELY OR PURELY PRESENTED IN ALL RESPECTS IN THE ACCEPTED DOCTRINES OF ANY LIVING SCHOOL.” Life & Letters, Vol. 2, p. 155.

Maurice, a son of a Unitarian minister, was dismissed from his position as Professor of English Literature and History, at King’s College London, in 1853, because of his unorthodoxy on the subject of eternal punishment.

HORT TO BISHOP ELY. November 12th 1871:

“I feel entirely with you that a fundamental difference on that subject of the atonement, if it existed, would place me in a false position as your examining chaplain ... If there be any difference, it concerns only the relation of the Atonement to other doctrines ...Christian peace comes not from sin denied, or sin ignored, but sin washed away. If it was not washed effectually away once for all upon the cross, an awakened conscience has no refuge but in futile self efforts after an heathenish self-atonement. (See Rape of Hort’s Mind. Page 24 for an illustration of erroneous thinking that completely negates the value of this apparent orthodoxy.) About the manner of the Atonement, we must all feel that it lies in a region into which we can have only glimpses ... It is the vain attempt to bring the Divine Truth down to the level of our own understandings, that has created all the dark perversions of the Atonement which have justly offended sensitive consciences, and so given to the denial of the truth itself.” Ibid., Vol. 11, p. 157.

Let us keep in mind the fact that Hort considered the idea of substitutionary suffering an offense, and felt that the ransom could well be offered to Satan but never to the Father.

“So also the uniqueness of the great Sacrifice seems to me not to consist in its being a substitute which makes all other sacrifices useless and unmeaning, but in its giving them the power and meaning which of themselves they could not have. He (Maurice) may have dwelt too exclusively on the idea of sacrifice which is suggested in Hebrews 10:5-10, AND HE MAY HAVE FAILED TO MAKE CLEAR THAT SACRIFICE IS NOT THE ONLY WAY OF CONCEIVING ATONEMENT.” Ibid., p. 158. (Capitals mine. C.J.C.)

THE CORRECTIVE OF SCRIPTURE

Leviticus 17:11: “For the life of the flesh is in the blood; and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.”

Obviously Dr. Hort and the Word of God differ on the Atonement.

Ephesians 5:2: “And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us and hath given Himself for us AN OFFERING AND A SACRIFICE TO GOD.” (Not to Satan as Hort suggests)

Hebrews 9:26 b: “Now once in the end of the world hath He appeared, TO PUT AWAY SIN BY THE SACRIFICE OF HIMSELF.”

Hebrews 10:12: “But this man, after HE HAD OFFERED ONE SACRIFICE FOR SINS FOREVER, SAT DOWN ON THE RIGHT HAND OF GOD.”

1 Corinthians 5:7: “Christ our Passover is SACRIFICED FOR US.”

Bishop Ely’s reply to Hort is enlightening, as to what he did not know about Dr. Hort’s theology.

BISHOP ELY TO DR. HORT. November 18th 1871:

“I believe from what you kindly write that there is no fundamental difference between us on the doctrine of the Atonement, and I am disposed to flatter myself that there may be great sympathy between us on many points.” Ibid., Vol. 11, p. 159.

Either Hort deceived the Bishop or the Bishop himself also was heretical concerning the Atonement.

BISHOP ELY continues to DR. HORT;

“I hope I may have misconceived Maurice; for on the subject in question, I have been a good deal pained by his writings. I entirely feel with you that it is quite possible to believe the sacrifice of Christ to be the acting out and manifestation of an eternal principle, WITHOUT DISPARAGING THE ATONING POWER OF THAT SACRIFICE. What I fear is that Mr. Maurice does substitute the one thought for the other, AND DOES NOT COMBINE THE TWO.” Ibid., Vol. 11, p. 159. (Capitals mine. C.J.C.)

Bishop Ely probably could not know the tremendous influence of Maurice on the thinking and theology of Hort. Throughout his life, Hort constantly referred to Maurice in the most glowing terms of adulation and praise. Hort Jr. tells us the sad story in A SHORT SINGLE SENTENCE:

“MAURICE’S TEACHING WAS THE MOST POWERFUL ELEMENT IN HIS RELIGIOUS DEVELOPMENT, SATISFYING MANY A WANT WHICH HAD HITHERTO DISTRESSED HIM.” Life & Letters, Vol. 1, p. 42. (Capitals mine. C.J.C.)

Hort never seems to have lost his supreme confidence in Maurice. We find him as a young man submitting himself and his thinking to the verdict of Maurice on the most important doctrines.

HORT TO MAURICE. November 16th 1849

“Since you have been chosen rather to guide us in the old ways, which God made, and not you, surely the aid you have already given is a pledge of your willingness to assist us again in discerning the eternal order among all the confusions that beset us, and to bear with the perverseness which more that anything blinds our eyes. (II Cor. 4:4) I have therefore resolved to ask you to guide me, if you can, to a satisfactory solution of a question which has long been tormenting me ... I mean the question whether any man will be hereafter punished with never ending torments, spiritual or physical.” Ibid., Vol. 1, p. 116.

There then follows a string of questions and doubts and guesses which reveal how completely Hort’s mind was confused.

If Hort had not already rejected the full authority of the Scriptures he could have the vexing question settled by referring to the Bible; rather than to a man who was to be dismissed from his position for heretical views on that very question.

John 3:36 would have settled the issue. The words are clear. “He that believeth on the Son (Lord Jesus Christ) hath everlasting life: And he that believeth not the Son SHALL NOT SEE LIFE: BUT THE WRATH OF GOD ABIDETH ON HIM.”

Revelation 20:15, “And whosoever was not found written in the book of life, was cast into the lake of fire.” Vs. 10 clearly states that in this lake of fire the inhabitants shall be tormented day and night forever and ever.

THEOLOGICAL OUTLOOK CAUSE OF DEEP DEPRESSION

“His mind ran much on theological difficulties, and his perplexities caused at times deep depression. The result was that he wrote to Maurice a long letter on Eternal Punishment and Redemption...” Ibid., pp.91.92.

This action of Hort’s would resemble the action of a lamb going to a wolf to ask directions. In each case the answer would prove fatal. Real Bible study with the leading of the Holy Spirit should never produce depression or confusion.

Psalm 19:8, “The statutes of the Lord are right, REJOICING THE HEART.”

HORT TO JOHN ELLERTON CHRISTMAS DAY 1849;

“It was with the greatest difficulty that I screwed out time to write to Maurice; and that I should have deferred, but that the question was daily driving me mad.” Ibid., Vol. 1, p. 124.

Contrast; “Rejoicing the heart” and “Driving me mad”. Obviously Hort was trapped in the web of false doctrine, at an early age. One might suggest, from the moment that he ceased to believe the evangelical fundamental doctrines of Scripture.

HORT - A MEMBER OF A SECRET SOCIETY

“Yet he found time to attend the meetings of various societies, and in June joined THE MYSTERIOUS COMPANY OF THE APOSTLES ... He remained always a grateful and loyal member of the secret club ... HE WAS MAINLY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE WORDING OF THE OATH THAT BINDS THE MEMBERS TO A CONSPIRACY OF SILENCE.” (Capitals mine. C.J.C.)

GOD’S COMMAND VS. MAURICE’S ADVICE.

Matthew 5:34 and 37; “But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God’s throne:...But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.”

HORT GREATLY INFLUENCED BY THE OCCULT!

“TWO OTHER SOCIETIES of widely different aims were started in the same year, IN BOTH OF WHICH HORT SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN THE MOVING SPIRIT: one small club formed for the practice of choral music, the other called by its members, THE GHOSTLY GUILD, the object of which was to classify authenticated instances of what are now called ‘psychical phenomena’ ...” Ibid., Vol. 1, p. 172. HORT - THE OCCULT - AND THE TEXTUS RECEPTUS

In 1 Timothy 4:1, Paul speaks of seducing spirits and doctrines of devils. “Now the Spirit speaketh expressly that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils.” (This is precisely what Hort did).

It is only a short step from abandoning evangelical doctrines fundamental to the faith, to that of “giving heed” to seducing spirits, and “doctrines of devils.”

Any teaching which contradicts the clear teaching of the Holy Spirit, comes from an unholy spirit, i.e. a demon. Dr. Hort’s letters seem to literally abound in contradictions of Scripture; and as we have already seen he glories in his rejection of evangelical doctrines. This is the work of Satan in the souls of men.

SCHOLARS HAIL HORT AS “THE MAN WHO SLEW THE TEXTUS RECEPTUS”

Let Dr. Hort speak for himself on this matter,

HORT TO JOHN ELLERTON. December 20th 1851.

“I had no idea till the last few weeks of the importance of texts, having read so little Greek Testament, and DRAGGED ON WITH THE VILLAINOUS TEXTUS RECEPTUS” ... “THINK OF THAT VILE TEXTUS RECEPTUS LEANING ENTIRELY ON LATE MANUSCRIPTS: IT IS A BLESSING THERE ARE SUCH EARLY ONES ...” Life & Letters, Vol. 1, p. 211. Hort refers of course to the very corrupt Codex B. (Vaticanus), and very probably Codex L - Regius - at Paris, a carelessly written manuscript which often supports Vaticanus readings. Later in 1859 the Codex Sinaiticus, in which it’s finder Tischendorf, noted twelve thousand alterations, made it’s appearance. These he considered the “oldest and best” manuscripts. From where did Hort get this great antipathy to the Textus Receptus so early in his career? How did he conceive his ingenious theories to minimize the fact that the Textus Receptus, (the Greek text underlying the King James Version of the Bible), is without doubt, representative of a very high percentage of all Greek manuscripts? Let the careful student of the case remember that Hort was never able to produce a vestige of historical evidence for his carefully spun out theories. It just does not exist.

HORT AND THE OCCULT!

To this writer the statement which immediately follows Hort’s describing the sacred text as “Vile” is most revealing:

“Westcott, Gorham, C.B. Scott, Benson, Bradshaw, Laurd, etc. and I have started a society for the investigation of ghosts, and all supernatural appearances, and effects, being all disposed to believe that such things really exist, and ought to be discriminated from hoaxes and mere subjective delusions; we shall be happy to obtain any good accounts well authenticated with names. Our own temporary name is the GHOSTLY GUILD.” Ibid., Vol. 1, p. 211. (Capitals mine. C.J.C.)

The connection of this statement with his declamation against the Textus Receptus is of great significance.

THE SECRET IS OUT!

Here we have the hidden background for the modern spreading rejection of the King James Version. The followers of Westcott and Hort are following the lead of men who at the instigation of seducing spirits, have departed from the faith. In some cases this departure is openly manifested by a strictly forbidden prying into the occult. These having received from the world of spirits a hatred for the true Word of God, are swiftly and surely leading multitudes into the same satanic pitfall.

Witness the strange behavior of multitudes who having abandoned the King James Version of the Scriptures, react in various ways:

A.     Many refuse to discuss the reason for receiving a modern version.

B.     Many more have an angry reaction when questioned.

C.     Many in high positions give evasive answers.

D.    Many say the most ridiculous things, without proof of any kind.

E.     Many deride the Textus Receptus. Derision is the last resort of a mind that is bankrupt of sensible arguments.

F.      Almost all avoid an open public debate on this vital subject.

Any and all of the above reactions are those of men and women who have been misled in the greatest matter in this life. That is, where is the pure Word of God?

Virtually every new bible version that is highly advertised today is based upon the corrupt and contradictory manuscripts Vaticanus and Sinaiticus. Protest as they may the translators labor under the heavy shackles of the erroneous thinking of Westcott and Hort.

The writer is deeply convinced of the great danger to the individual who trusts a new Bible Version. It is my conviction that, THE GREATEST ATTACK OF THE DEVIL ON THE CHURCH IN THE TWENTIETH CENTURY IS THE NEW BIBLE VERSION MOVEMENT.

IT WAS WESTCOTT AND HORT WHO FIGURED GREATLY IN THE ELEVATING OF VATICANUS AND SINAITICUS TO THE UNWARRANTED PLACE OF AUTHORITY THAT THESE MANUSCRIPTS HOLD IN THE MINDS OF MODERN TRANSLATORS.

HORT’S METHOD OF GENEALOGICAL EVIDENCE

“There is then in reserve yet a fourth method, the elaboration is perhaps Hort’s most original contribution to the science of textual criticism - that is the method of ‘genealogical evidence’. The principle indeed had been applied to manuscripts by previous scholars, but NEVER SO FULLY DEVELOPED.” Life & Letters, Vol. 11, p. 249. (Capitals mine. C.J.C.)

Many scholars today state unequivocally that Westcott and Hort did not and could not apply the “genealogical” test to the manuscripts of the New Testament. In other words, Hort’s great method and its so called assured results have been proven to be a great deception. Scholars of stature have branded Hort’s “assured results” as a fabrication. This seems to be a polite way of saying that Hort lied.

HORT’S METHOD SLAYS ONLY THOSE WHO BELIEVE IN IT

It now becomes obvious that Hort’s great weapon, or “genealogical method”, with which he “slew” the Textus Receptus was a phantom sword. It could neither cut nor hurt the Textus Receptus. His “assured results” were deceptions of the most reprehensible character. The scholars believed the lie and like sheep going astray turned to Greek texts based upon greatly inferior manuscripts.

By this time Hort knows that he did not “slay” the Textus Receptus. It is highly probable that the Textus Receptus will “slay” Hort. Jesus said, “The Word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.” John 12:48b.

So upon the teachings of a man who admittedly departed from the faith of Evangelical believers, who yielded himself up to secret societies, including the occult; who also received Satanic deceptions concerning the Atonement and many other doctrines; who also is being branded by modern scholars as a deceiver, the religious world moves tragically and swiftly in the FOOTSTEPS OF WESTCOTT AND HORT.

The awesome tragedy of our day is this; namely that the identical blindness concerning the Scriptures that led Westcott and Hort to reject the Textus Receptus, is fastening itself on the minds of multitudes of men and women who like Hort are being drawn from the position of faith in the Scriptures to faith in Bible versions which indeed corrupt the Word of God. II Cor. 2:17, “For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.” The tragedy is heightened by the fact that a great number of sincere Christian men and women who are in influential positions are engaged in spreading the deceptions of Westcott and Hort, while all the time feeling that they are ‘improving’ on the readings of the King James Version. What a day of reckoning lies ahead in Revelation 22:18-19.

In the light of Revelation 12:9, “Satan which deceiveth the whole world” and Luke 18:8 “When the Son of Man cometh, shall He find faith on the earth?” The mind boggles under the triumph of “the old Serpent” who in Eden’s garden first cast a doubt regarding the Word of God, and then an outright denial into the mind of Eve. The religious world races madly after scores of “new and improved” versions of the Bible. The vast majority of which seem to specialize in casting doubts upon the Deity of Christ, His virgin birth, and the blood atonement.

AN AWAKENING

God in mercy is awakening some among the learned.

THE TESTIMONY OF A SCHOLAR WHO WORKED ON THE INTRODUCTION TO THE NEW AMERICAN STANDARD VERSION AND WAS ALSO ON THE BOARD OF TRANSLATORS OF THE AMPLIFIED VERSION.

After reading Dr. David Otis Fuller’s most excellent books WHICH BIBLE? and TRUE OR FALSE?, he writes as follows:

In a personal letter to the writer of this brochure the same scholar writes; with reference to the New American Standard Version;

“When questions began to reach me, at first I WAS QUITE OFFENDED. However, in attempting to answer, I began to sense that something was not right about the N.A.S.V. Upon investigation, I wrote my very dear friend, Mr. Lockman, EXPLAINING THAT I WAS FORCED TO RENOUNCE ALL ATTACHMENT TO THE N.A.S.V. ...I could not add much to what Dr. Fuller has in his books, copies of which you possess. I can aver that the project (N.A.S.V.) was produced by thoroughly sincere men who had the best intentions. THE PRODUCT, HOWEVER, IS GRIEVOUS TO MY HEART AND HELPS TO COMPLICATE MATTERS IN THESE ALREADY TROUBLOUS TIMES. HORT PLANNED TO DECEIVE SINCERE SCHOLARS AS THE ONE JUST QUOTED.

The Apostle Paul who was indeed a man of God, was not only willing but desirous that men and women should be fully aware of his “doctrine, manner of life, (AND) PURPOSE ...” II Timothy 3:10. Westcott and Hort deliberately hid the worst of their theological errors, and their PURPOSE,

“The errors and prejudices which we agree in wishing to remove, can surely be more wholesomely and also more effectually reached by individual efforts OF AN INDIRECT KIND THAN BY COMBINED OPEN ASSAULT. AT PRESENT VERY MANY ORTHODOX BUT RATIONAL MEN ARE BEING UNAWARES ACTED ON BY INFLUENCES WHICH WILL ASSUREDLY BEAR GOOD FRUIT IN DUE TIME, IF THE PROCESS IS ALLOWED TO GO ON QUIETLY; BUT I CANNOT HELP FEARING THAT A PREMATURE CRISIS WOULD FRIGHTEN BACK MANY INTO THE MEREST TRADITIONALISM. AND AS A MERE MATTER OF PRUDENCE, IT SEEMS TO ME QUESTIONABLE TO SET UP A SINGLE BROAD CONSPICUOUS TARGET FOR THE PHILISTINES TO SHOOT AT, UNLESS THERE IS SOME VERY DECIDED ADVANTAGE TO BE GAINED.” Life & Letters, Vol. 1, p.400.(Capitals mine C.J.C.)

There we have a very plain statement to the effect that Hort was deliberately leading orthodox believers into the same diabolical trap into which he and Westcott had already fallen.

May every Christian person who had been led to trust the theories of Westcott and Hort ponder prayerfully the implications of this hiding of their purpose. Please keep in mind also that the new Bible versions are all greatly influenced by the conniving and deliberate deception of these men. Very, very occasionally we find an exception, but usually that exception is a very weak effort to “improve” the K.J.V.

Let my reader who has abandoned the Textus Receptus ask himself prayerfully before the Lord, if he is not one of those who follow in the train of sincere orthodox men that are being “worked” on by forces or influences of which they are not aware? What a horrible way to lead souls astray! Truly Satanic in every respect. The twentieth century has seen a flood of orthodox men and women fall into this trap.

A SHOCKING ADMISSION OF DUPLICITY. A TRICK THAT WORKED TO THIS DAY.

“Also - but this may be cowardice - I have a sort of craving that our text should be cast upon the world, BEFORE WE DEAL WITH MATTERS LIKELY TO BRAND US WITH SUSPICION. I MEAN, A TEXT (WESTCOTT AND HORT GREEK TEXT) (parenthesis mine C.J.C. ) ISSUED BY MEN ALREADY KNOWN FOR WHAT WILL UNDOUBTEDLY BE TREATED AS DANGEROUS HERESY, WILL HAVE GREAT DIFFICULTY IN FINDING ITS WAY INTO REGIONS WHICH IT MIGHT OTHERWISE HOPE TO REACH AND WHENCE IT WOULD NOT BE EASILY BANISHED BY SUBSEQUENT ALARMS.” Life & Letters, Vol. 1, p. 445. Here Hort spoke as a prophet of the Pit. The Westcott and Hort Greek text has indeed reached into places and has been accepted where it ought not and would not have been accepted, if these men had published their dangerously heretical essays before their Greek text. Slowly but surely this text is being dislodged, but as Hort said, “NOT EASILY”. Its terrible damage has been done, and multitudes who think they have been freed from the shackles of Westcott and Hort, prove indeed that they really have not, by their complete trust in the manuscripts which were the objects of veneration by these deceiving scholars; namely Vaticanus and Sinaiticus; and by their abandonment of the Textus Receptus, which we have seen was an object of the antagonism of Hort from his earliest student days.

When a man is doctrinally astray, every area of life may be influenced by the fact that the Adversary has deceived him in the realm of faith. We shall now review a few examples of how Hort’s mind was inflexibly set as a result of religious error and apostasy.

SOME REASONS WHY VARIOUS GROUPS AND INDIVIDUALS SHOULD NOT TRUST HORT’S THINKING AND THEOLOGY:

ATTENTION ALL METHODISTS. Hort to his father December 14th 1846. “In fact his whole course lay in misrepresentation, confounding Evangelicalism with Methodism, WHICH LAST IS WORSE THAN POPERY BEING MORE INSIDIOUS.” Ibid., Vol. 1, p. 49. (Capitals mine. C.J.C.)

ATTENTION ALL WOMEN OF VOTING AGE. Hort to Ellerton March 1850. Re voting privileges for women. “Why exclude women? ... It might be expedient for a while to exclude them, as they had always been excluded; ... but this touched not my point, whether in a right and normal state of things they would not have equal political rights with men. I DO NOT THINK I EVER ABSOLUTELY ASSENTED, BUT FOR A LONG WHILE I COULD FIND NO REASON FOR REFUSING ASSENT.” Ibid., Vol. 1, p. 134. (Capitals mine. C.J.C.)

Perhaps someone will now step forward and tell us why women should not vote.

A critic writes, “let us stick to the issues, and cease dabbling in personalities! It makes little difference whether Hort favored or opposed women’s suffrage in 1850 ... he actually favored it if the women were educated.” Now that was decent of Dr. Hort!

My critics should know that the very purpose of this essay is to demonstrate the deviant thinking of Dr. Hort in so many areas of life, that the sincere believer who has been led astray by his theories, may be released from the necessity of attributing a near infallibility to his judgment concerning what constitutes the “oldest and best” manuscripts, and the revisions of the Bible that are based upon those manuscripts.
