What the Koran and Muslim scholars say about Jihad (Holy War)

There’s been a great reluctance among American leaders to recognize that we are the target of a global Jihad or Holy War. There is a tenacious held sentimental ideal that Islam is a religion of peace that has just been hijacked by a few fanatics that do not represent true Islam. If we persist in this type of misdiagnosis, it will be catastrophic for the United States of America. The recent coordinated attacks on six churches in Iraq should wake us up. The Muslim fundamentalists are going by the numbers from specific commands of the Koran (Qu’ran) and Haddith. Fundamentalists are not the misguided fanatics, they are the true exponents of the core teachings of the Koran, the Haddith and the examples of Mohammed. Here are a few of the verses from the Koran that are the basis of the historic interpretation concerning waging Jihad. You will not that all Muslim’s are obligated to wage holy war against the unbeliever called the infidel, until the world is subjected to Islam. They are ordered to give the unbelievers to repent and embrace Islam. If they do not, then they can be killed or subjected to subservient status and charged heavy taxes.

“So when the sacred months have passed away, then slay the idolaters wherever you find them, and take them captives and besiege them and lie in wait for them in every ambush, then if they repent and keep up prayher and pay the poor-rate, leave their way free to them; surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful. And if one of the idolaters seek protection from you, grant him protection till he hears the word of Allah, then make him attain his place of safety; this is because they are a people who do not know.” – The Koran, Sura 9:5-6

These verses underscore the obligation, especially contemplation called the sacred months to seek to spread submission to Islam by Jihad or Holy War. This is in keeping with Mohammed’s teaching that the world is divided by Allah into only two groups, the house of peace and the house or region of war. All who live outside the rule of Muslim government are in the permanent house or region of war.

“Fight those who do not believe in Allah, nor in the latter day, nor do they prohibit what Allah and His Apostle have prohibited, nor follow the religion of truth, out of those who have been given the Book (Bible), until they pay the tax in acknowledgment of superiority and they are in a state of subjection.” –The Koran, Sura 9:29

This verse emphasizes that the infidel is to be subjected by force. If they continue to resist, they are to be executed. Special note is made of the responsibility to those who have the Bible, the Jews and Christians.

“Those who believe fight in the way of Allah, and those who disbelieve fight in the way of the Shaitan (Satan). Fight therefore against the friends of the Shaitan; surely the strategy of the Shaitan is weak.” – The Koran, Sura 4.76

This verse demonizes all who are non-Muslims as friends of Satan. This gives authorization for the most extreme violent means of dealing with them.

“Have you not seen those to whom it was said: Withhold your hands, and keep up prayer and pay the poor-rate; but when fighting is prescribed for them, lo! A party of them fear men as they ought to have feared Allah, or (even) with a greater fear, and say: Our Lord! Why hast Thou ordained fighting for us? Wherefore didst Thou not grant us a delay to a near end? Say: The provision of this world is short, and the hereafter is better for him who guards (against evil); and you shall not be wronged the husk of a date stone.” –The Koran, Sura 4:78

This verse powerfully indicts any Muslim who isn’t willing to fight in the Jihad. The Muslims that our leaders call the true Muslims are condemned by this verse. The fundamentalists can and do put a guilt trip upon them to either go fight or to financially finance those who do. There are numerous verses that teach the same doctrine of spreading the Muslim faith (Islam) by Jihad, but the important fact is now leading Muslim theologians understood and taught them. Ibn Khaldun, who died in 1406 was a historian, sociologists and one of Islam’s most renowned teachers of Koranic law. He summarized these consensus opinions from five centuries of Islam’s most authoritative theologians regarding the Islamic institution of Jihad.

“In the Muslim community, the holy war is a religious duty, because of the universalism of the (Muslim) mission and (the obligation to) convert everybody to Islam either by persuasion or by force … The other religious groups did not have a universal mission, and the holy war was not a religious duty for them, save only for purposes of defense … Islam is under obligation to gain power over other nations.” –Ibn Khaldun

These theologians reflect what has been the understanding of spreading Islam by Holy War. A contemporary Muslim scholar of Jihad makes it clear what is the standard understanding of Holy War today.

“Thus the jihad may be regarded as Islam’s instrument for carrying out its ultimate objective by turning all people into believers, if not in the prophethood of Muhammad (as in the case of the dhimmis), at least in the belief of God. The Prophet Muhammed is reported to have declared ‘some’ of my people will continue to fight victoriously for the sake of the truth until the last one of them will combat the anti-Christ.’ Until that moment is reached the jihad, in one form or another will remain as a permanent obligation upon the entire Muslim community … The universality of Islam, in its all-embracing creed, is imposed on the believers as a continuous process of warfare, psychological and political if not strictly military.” – Bassam Tibi, 1995

These are the doctrines that true Muslims believe. They are the heart and core of the faith Mohammed preached and the Koran and the Haddith record. The reason the terrorists attack Christian churches in Iraq and other nation is because that is what they are supposed to do in a Jihad. The main reason we are being attacked by Muslim fundamentalists from all over the world is because we are considered to be the bastion of Judeo-Christian civilization. We are in a fight for our survival in a war we did not choose or initiate. We are part of what those true Muslim believe is the house of war. We will continue to be looked upon as that until either we are destroyed or forced to submit to Islamic rule. The sooner we get this message and believe it, the sooner we can devise a strategy to win this war. Otherwise we are fighting blindly and an enemy we don’t recognize or understand. And time is running out for us to get the message. What is truly terrifying is that the liberals of this country are farther out in la la land than the present government is.
